A split vertebra formation of the lumbar spine is called spondylolysis, which weakens the stable framework of the spine at a certain point, usually in the lumbar vertebra area, by shifting individual vertebrae against each other. If a vertebral body slides forward, this is known as an olisthesis (or spondylolisthesis). Depending on the severity of the disease, a distinction is made between different stages. The maximum manifestation is spondyloptosis. 10 % of the population have a spondylolisthesis and 10 % of them have corresponding pain symptoms. Such a disease is also decisive for the further career path and can only be diagnosed by an exact examination and appropriate additional measures.
